We are in full swing with testing preparations and review this week. Attendance is very important so students can take full advantage of extra help and review for the End Of Grade Assessments coming our way.
End Of Year MClass Assessments have already begun. Teachers are working hard to make sure every student has a strong chance of achieving their growth.
Last week I sent home a message regarding discipline and implementing a RESET period for those who are not engaged and causing any disruption to the review process for our testing. Allowing students to have a RESET time lets them practice self-regulation and it also allows other students to get what they need now in the classroom. Disruption can not be happening during MClass assessments. After a week of implementing this adjustment in our classroom management, improvement in class participation is going well. Teachers are instructed to not waste precious time with disruptions, but rather send the disruption to where they can reset behavior and return to the classroom. If the student does not regulate and adjust, he or she will be sent to ISS for the day and a parent will be notified by the end of the day. Th RESET does not count against the student in discipline reporting, but, ISS does. Please encourage your child to do what they need to do to remain in class!
Thursday, May 8th we will have a Kindergarten Transition Night for those planning to enroll students for Kindergarten next year from 5:30 – 6:30. This is a time to meet with our Kindergarten staff to hear what will be expected to prepare for the start of school.
Friday, May 9th in the afternoon, we will have our Candyman Main event for participating students. Thanks for all the support with this fundraiser.
Beginning May 23rd, End Of Grade Testing will start and last through May 30th. PLEASE consider attendance being mandatory. I am asking that everyone avoid appointments during this particular week. Make-up testing is harder on the student and they miss the “fun” stuff during make-up testing. 100% attendance is the goal for testing days so we do not have any make-ups to give!
Teacher Appreciation Week begins Monday, May 5th. Spring Hope is fortunate to have a strong staff. I actually have teachers requesting to come to our school to teach for next year. This is because the word is getting out that we are a school with expectations and we are meeting those expectations. I can’t be successful without successful students. Teachers make our students successful, therefore, we need to appreciate what we have. Teacher Appreciation Week is from May 5th – May 9th. Don’t forget to send a kind and positive word to our teachers this week!
Our new sign for the school is getting closer to being a reality. I am meeting with the town commissioners Monday evening to finalize installation of our new digital sign. This has been a goal of mine for several years. I am looking forward to making it come true.
We also have our new playgrounds installed and being used by students. It is great to see our students playing like kids on our playgrounds, they grow up so fast. I want to keep them at this age forever, but that is not meant to be, so I want to make their time here great as much as possible.
Thanks for listening to me brag about our school, truly love doing that and it is a pleasure to serve as your Principal.
