Weekly Reminders

We are now in the home stretch with only 15 days left in the 24-25 school year. Next week we begin our “Super Bowl” which is EOG Testing.

Friday, we will begin the EOG testing with 5th Grade Science.

All other EOG Tests will be after the Memorial Day Holiday as follows:

May 28: Math EOG grades 3-5

May 30: Reading EOG grades 3-5

The days in between tests will be a super focus review on math, May 27, and Reading on May 29. I can’t express enough how important it is for students to follow instructions and directions from the teacher during this time. I also can’t express how important their attendance is for each day, but especially for the EOG Tests days. If they miss or arrive too late, they will be required to take the make-up test during times others will be doing fun activities to celebrate the end of the year.

Following the EOG assessments, there will be a Read-To Achieve (RtA) assessment for 3rd grade students still needing to pass the State RtA Law requirement. This will only be select students.

I know this is also a stressful time for our students, because, the truth is that promotion is based, in part, on these tests. We also use grades, attendance and behavior to make this determination. There is NO DOUBT that it is stressful for all of us. Therefore, please make sure students are getting off the electronics some at home and getting a full night’s sleep. They can’t learn if they are sleepy during the day.

Possible retention letters are going out some this past week and still may be coming home for your review. Please check your child’s bookbags for any of this communication.

With all this talk about testing and scores, I always underline that the test does not define who the child is or who they become, but it does define their immediate future with grade and class placement.

We have set the Awards Day celebration for June 5th with K-2 beginning at 8:30 and 3-5 beginning at approx. 10:00. The 3-5 start time is dependent on the K-2 completion of awards.

As I have done for the last few weeks, important dates are listed at the end of the printed message in your email, webpage and Facebook.

Parents: I really need you now to encourage and believe in your child and their teacher to get us through this so we can all walk away holding our heads high with success!

Thanks for everything and for being great parents! As always, it is a pleasure serving as your Principal!
